What Are the Empathy Études?

A sequence of games we built to practice stepping into somebody else’s shoes. Like the Exquisite Corpse, we make something and pass it on. Unlike the Exquisite Corpse, we get weird together and make things with real-time constraints, using a lot of improv and spontaneous yes-anding to create animations, music videos, live doggie yoga classes, interactive audio tours and many many other little oddities. We investigate what it’s like to try to look at the world through someone — or something — else’s eyes, and bridge the gaps of the world wide web by jostling our familiar patterns of behavior in order to make new stuff. And we managed to crack the code on how to ACTUALLY have FUN over Zoom!

Participant 1 wrote postcards as part of a narrative and mailed them to Participant 2. Participant 2 made an art piece inspired by the postcards.
